Project abstract

Wide Area Monitoring and Control systems utilising Phasor Measurement Units are dependent on high performing, robust and secure communication infrastructures to allow delivery of high quality measurements and control signals. The performance of the power system becomes dependent on the capabilities of the communication system. This dependence creates a need for improved understanding of the factors in a communication system that creates problems for reliable communication. The project aims at developing models of wide area communication systems that allows experimentation with different protocols and architectures to support WAMC system applications. The goal of the project is to validate, and gradually refine these models with real networks used at TSOs.
